OAK GROVE, La. (KNOE) - Small business owners in Oak Grove are reopening their doors after closing because of COVID-19. They are trying to pick back up and make up for lost time and money.

KNOE spoke with several owners who say it’s going to take months, maybe a year to get back on track.
Karen McEntire, owner of Lighthouse Graphics, says it’s been a long month since she’s last opened shop. She says hopes she will get back on track after a few months, but others aren’t as lucky. “I’ve been here 19 years now, so I’m pretty well established,” McEntire says.
“Some of my friends were just starting new businesses, and they’re going to have a really tough time.”
Rebecca Elliott, owner of Delta Designs, says although she’s been working in limited capacity, the money lost still adds up. “When you’re not making the money that you were making, you’re basically buying inventory to pay bills, not to pay for our inventory, because we’re so slow,” Elliott says.
She says she and other are not able to get much assistance from the federal government. She says she applied for loans, but “haven’t heard anything back from that. As a small business owner that’s family-run, I don’t have any employees, so I need the help, but can’t get the help.”
Elliott says right now, she’s still trying to figure out her next steps to get back on track. She hopes to get her business back running normally by the end of the year.
“It’s just that now that we’re back being able to be open, we’re just hoping that everyone comes out and supports all of our local businesses.”
