The unstoppable supermodel Bella Hadid was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world on Time magazine’s annual list in 2023, and it’s irrefutable that her clout covers all things beauty. Whether executing a bold look on the red carpet or vacant of make-up entirely on social media, her aesthetic has become indelible in the public’s eye as one leading today’s trends. Not that it’s intentional. “It’s flattering, of course, but I really can’t take full credit for my looks since I take inspiration from so many different places,” Hadid tells us. “I’m kind of like a sponge like that, just soaking up everything around me at all times.” While Hadid – who is open about her struggles with mental health as well as living with Lyme disease – hasn’t been pictured in public since March, her latest look comes via a new campaign for Charlotte Tilbury, the mega make-up artist-led brand for which Hadid serves as a face. Modelling the versatility of the new Airbrush Flawless Lip Blur in its campaign (the product launching via the new Charlotte Tilbury app, today) she says “with every colour I put on, I can be a different version of myself”.
Here, Hadid walks Bazaar through her empowering beauty philosophy, and how she expresses herself through scents, hairstyles, make-up and nail art.
On not having beauty regrets
“I really think every look I’ve created reflected how I was feeling in that moment – or how I wanted to express myself in that moment. It’s all part of the journey!”
On her signature scent
“I have been, and will always be, a natural scent, pheromone or essential oil kind of girl. I think essential oils not only bring out the natural scent of you, but can add calmness and a sense of uniqueness to your day.”
On her beauty philosophy
“I don’t think there is one definition of ‘beauty’ – that’s why I love partnering with Charlotte. She really believes in the power of beauty to unlock confidence for people and has always been on a mission to make beauty easy and accessible to people everywhere.
“When I was younger and starting to explore with beauty and make-up, I would use products more so to create a look or different persona. Now I see it as more of a tool to enhance or express how I’m feeling.”
On when she feels most beautiful
“Beauty comes from within, so whenever I feel good on the inside, I think I look good on the outside, too.”
On her beauty looks trending on social media

I like to switch up my look depending on how I’m feeling.”

“I really like a natural, long-lasting look for the summer. I feel like I’m running around so much in the heat that I need a look that can keep up with me and my day, so a ‘no make-up’ make-up, bronzier look is always the best way to go. A good setting spray always helps for long-lasting wear.”

“I love seeing people’s creativity through nail-art. It is such a fun form of self-expression. Because of work, I am usually not able to keep one colour for more than a day. But as of now, and when I am off work, I let my nails breathe and go polish-free.”
On finding energy when fatigued
“I try to drink as much water, and get as much sleep, as I can. We’re on the go so much that it’s hard to eat clean, but I always feel better when I do. I also always make sure I have a Kin [a non-alcoholic ‘functional beverage’] in my hand to keep me feeling balanced and help stabilise my mood, calm my stress and give me that burst of energy I need.”
On the beauty advice she’d give her younger self
“Don’t compare yourself to anyone. Uniqueness and the things that make you different are what make you, you! Never change for anyone. There is beauty in every single one of our flaws.”
