Derby make up to 20 staff redundant after entering administration - The Athletic

Derby County made up to 20 staff redundant on Tuesday, after the club entered administration last week.

The Athletic understands that more redundancies are possible at the end of the 14-day consultation period from when administrators took over the Championship club.

After Derby appointed administrators last week, the club was given an automatic 12-point deduction, which sent them to the bottom of the Championship.

The club remain in talks with the EFL over an alleged breaking of financial fair play rules, which could see them hit with a further points penalty.

Former England manager Steve McClaren became the first senior member of Derby staff to leave his post, when he stepped down as the club’s technical director on Monday.

McClaren, who has managed Derby twice and re-joined the club’s board in November, will instead become a part-time ‘senior advisor’.

“The talks between both parties were amicable and as part of those discussions the club's joint administrators expressed their desire to retain McClaren on a part-time consultancy basis,” a statement from Derby said.

“It was agreed that McClaren will continue to act as a senior advisor as the club and joint administrators look to navigate through the administration process.”
