School closures can affect make-up days - KMVT

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Earlier this week we told you about what is required for schools to close.

Now school closures due to weather conditions can affect make-up days for students, but how?

The Twin Falls School District starts watching the weather as early as November. The district works closely with the bus companies, and they also send staff members to drive the roads.

The goal is to see if they are drivable for parents or even students who drive themselves to school.

Eva Craner, spokeswoman for the Twin Falls School District, explains what happens with those missed school days, “If we were to close for a significant amount of time we would have to make up days during the summer but as our calendar sits this year we have a little bit of a buffer and our wonderful committee that develops that calendar always tries to build in a little buffer because we do live in Idaho there is a possibility we might have to close a day or two.”

Some grades are cutting it close to their hour requirement. Craner says that if there are too many snow days, they would have to make those up.
