Nikola Jokic lived up to his “Joker” nickname in his first interaction with Suns owner Mat Ishbia since their sideline incident during Game 4 in Phoenix.
The Nuggets star was fined $25,000 by the league for making contact with Ishbia courtside during a dispute over the ball but was not suspended.
Jokic and Ishbia hugged it out during warm-ups prior to Game 5 in Denver on Tuesday night.
TNT’s camera showed the two-time MVP dribbling over to Ishbia, who was sitting courtside, and handing him the ball.
The two shook hands and had a smile at the moment.
Their interaction was much different on Sunday.
After Suns wing Josh Okogie dove into the stand for a loose ball, the ball ended up in Ishbia’s hands.
Jokic, likely thinking Ishbia was just a regular fan, rushed over to retrieve the ball.
Ishbia put up a bit of a fight as Jokic tried to rip it away from him — even knocking it away from the big man at one point.
With the ball now deeper in the stands, Jokic motioned for it with one arm, while extending his other into Ishbia.
The Suns owner went with it fell back into his seat with his hands up — as if looking for a foul.
And he got one, as Jokic was given a technical foul and the Suns went on to win the game to even the series at 2-2.
“[The ref] he told me I was elbowing the fan,” Jokic told reporters after the game. “The fan put a hand on me first so. I thought the league is supposed to protect us or whatever. Maybe I’m wrong. We’ll see.”
Ishbia would lobby for Jokic to not be suspended.
“Great win for the Suns last night in an amazing series so far! That should be and is the only story,” Ishbia tweeted. “Suspending or fining anyone over last night’s incident would not be right. I have alot of respect for Jokic and don’t want to see anything like that. Excited for game 5! Go Suns!”
The two seem to have zero animosity over what happened
