Oregon excited at the opportunity to make up for embarrassing loss to Utah - 247Sports

There is a fire that burns inside the Oregon football program. They have the utmost respect for the Utah Ute program, and fully admit they were humbled and embarrassed by the Utes just two weeks ago in Salt Lake City. They also are excited for a second crack at the Utes. This time the Ducks will face Utah in the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday night in Las Vegas, and this time to show what they brought to the last meeting wasn't their true colors.

"Last time we played this team, we got embarrassed. Tune in Friday night," said Oregon safety Verone McKinley III.

Utah won the first meeting of these two teams this year 38-7. It was a game in which everything seemed to go right for Utah, and nothing could go right for the Ducks. It was the worst loss in the Mario Cristobal era considering the opponent they played, Oregon's stature in the college football playoff picture, and the margin of victory.

Oregon's coaches have said playing the Utes for the second time in three weeks isn't a good thing or bad thing in terms of a better understanding of the gameplan and opponent. They've noted the players and the staff will have an easier time to pick up on the game-plan and know what's to come, but they also admit this game will feature new wrinkles, new schemes, new situations. It's an entirely different ball game this time around.

Oregon's players are using what happened two weeks ago as an extra vehicle of motivation to be better prepared for what's to come. They don't want to waste a second chance at the Utes.

"It's huge. Two weeks ago was probably the worst loss we've had since I've been here. To get this team again, understand what type of game it is going to be, know what we did wrong, know how we can be better. Let's do it again," said McKinley.

"Good team over there. They've always been a good team. Well coached. Disciplined. Physical. We're the same. Let's put the ball down, go toe to toe, and this time it's going to be different."

"Whenever you get a second chance at someone, it's always important to leave it out there," added starting quarterback Anthony Brown. "The first one didn't go as well as we planned. Just having the opportunity to get back out there is amazing. Just take those shots that we can take, and roll with it."

Oregon knows they've got doubters and they know they will need to prove them wrong. They're just excited to have the chance to do it, against the opponent that beat them soundly just two weeks ago.
